As with many such matches between poker greats, this match will be a grudge match. When you play poker to the level that these guys do, it is unsurprising to learn that some personalities can clash, while others grow sick and tired of another’s antics at the table.
Bilzerian is known for his “work hard, play harder” lifestyle that he splashes across Instagram and other social media. It is thought that he gained most of his skills and money from private games, not from playing the circuits like other pros. Private games like these are not uncommon in the lives of the rich and famous. What people think happened is that Bilzerian exposed too much of these private games through his social media, resulting in the callout from Gores. With a win, Gores might be able to shut Bilzerian up.

Bilzerian is well-known in poker circles for his extravagant lifestyle. You just have to head to his social media to see the way in which he lives his life. He has attracted many followers because of this, and is unafraid to play any game whether it is big or small. He even serves as one of the pro team at GGPoker UK. It is clear that he is unafraid to really flex and show off what he is made of as a player, and he has the means to put his money where his mouth is.
Gores, on the other hand, might be known better for his business than his poker. He is the founder of The Gores Group and helped to pioneer a more operational approach to private equity funding. However, along with his business interests has come a love of poker that no one can deny.
The Outcome of Clashes Like These
Big classes like what we see from Gores and Bilzerian are common enough in the world of poker. Someone will get annoyed about gossip or an accusatory statement from somewhere, and this will break down into a feud and several slinging insults. Eventually, the pair will decide to let the cards do the talking, and will make their way to the felt to duel it out.
Most recently, we have seen Bilzerian’s fellow GGPoker pro Daniel Negreanu get into a feud with Doug Polk. This involved several clashes before they agreed to meet, and resulted in a win for Polk. It is also not uncommon to see a hothead like Phil Hellmuth ending up in a feud. At least when a feud does occur, things can be easily settled through the medium of poker!
It is thought that the match between Bilzerian and Gores will have a pot of $100M, and will be commentated on by Polk when it eventually comes to pass. However, we have yet to see any indication as to when it might be happening. The longer they leave it, the more insults will be traded and the deeper the feud might begin to run.
